Picking and Grinning 12/24/13

Picking and Grinning 12/24 Lure of Hawaii Record /13

In this episode of Picking and Grinning, I took a short break from Christmas shopping and stopped in at a local Salvation Army.

Here is what I spent at the thrift store in 15 minutes:

51 LP Records @ .10 each = 5.10, 2 PlayStation 2 Consoles @ $5 each = $10.  $15.10 total spent

Here are some of the highlights of the items that I listed on Amazon in about 30 minutes:

The Lure of Hawaii LP pictured in the photo: $25

Bob DuRant Big Band Jazz Record from Detroit: $60

Together: A Gift of Love: $22.80

Music from Can-Can and Other Favorites: $22.95

Hallelujah to the King: Blackwood Brothers: $45

Beethoven Trios: Czech Rep. Digital Audiophile Import: $70

Songs of the South: Pat Terry Group [Christian Gospel]

Ford 50th Anniversary Album – 10″ 33 RPM – $59

I had to trade some used goods to get some cords and controllers for the PS2 consoles, but listed them for just over $100 total.

Results:

Total listed from pick:  $1216.40. Total Time Picking: 15-20 minutes Total Time Listing: 30 minutes. I picked 2 records which had large scratches and one that was under $1 on Amazon, so it was put back in the Goodwill pile.

This was a great pick.  There were a ton of rare records in the Salvation Army boxes.  Lesson learned – look for the records that nobody has, not the pop records and rock records that you think people want.  Too many people have them for them to be worth more than $5 or so.  I sell $30-50 records often and the majority of them are Gospel, Christian, Jazz, or old soundtrack records.
