How to Get Maximum Royalties – Kindle Unlimited for Authors
Kindle Unlimited is Amazon’s new subscription service – readers can borrow unlimited books for $9.99 a month. With the launch of the new service and a free 30 day trial period, authors are seeing their book sales decline as readers opt to borrow books for free.
The question is, how will the increase in borrows affect overall royalties? Nobody knows for sure yet, as although Amazon has set the “kitty” at $2 million for the 1st month, self published authors won’t know how much they earn until the pot is split up among the 600K-plus authors who participate in KU.
I, for one, am not waiting around to see what happens. I am setting my books up to take advantage in the change in Kindle marketplace in this new KU world. Reader appetites will change and become more of a “binge buying” frenzy, as subscribers can order many books; plus there is no requirement to read them. They can return books for free.
Unless the Reader that Borrows Your Book Reads 10% of Your Book, the Author Receives Nothing!
That sucks, right? We want to avoid that at all costs. There are some easy and free tweaks that self published authors can make.

KU for Authors is currently free (August 1-5, 2014) on Kindle and then very affordable after that. Get one or two more KU borrows and you will be making money on your investment (you can expect many more borrows than that!).
